I realize that our young nation is still having growing pains. I think we will all admit that there are many injustices, unfairness, and inequities still in America today, but no country has done more to correct these things than has America. Remembering the past can be helpful, and as we do, let’s focus more on the future and what we can do to make it better. Our culture in America has become full of evil because of our attitude about authority, especially “scriptural authority.” Our nation was founded on scriptural authority by imperfect, flawed men. Every man and woman who have any kind of governmental authority, all our congressmen, every senator, and every president, and certainly including President Trump, have been and are imperfect and flawed, but they are our leaders and deserve our respect. God has a very harsh judgment on a nation that does not! (Romans 13:1-7) According to our Christian Bible, God has ordained that there should be governing authorities, imperfect and flawed as they may be. We are to respect and be subject to these governing authorities or suffer the consequences. When God inspired the Apostle Paul to write about this in Romans Chapter 13, Nero was in power in Rome. Nero was a very evil and cruel person. He persecuted Christians, and yet God said, through the Apostle Paul, that the people should summit to Nero’s authority because that authority was ordained by God, Himself. I realize there is such a thing as civil disobedience, but that is an entirely different issue.

I do not know of a time when there has been less respect for God, for authority, for our precious veterans, even in our homes, in our schools, and in our law enforcement. In most schools, we have taken out prayer, bible reading, and the pledge of allegiance to our great and wonderful flag. Evil ones are now trying to take the national anthem out of our society. Beginning at the top, there is disrespect for our president and other high-up officials unmatched in the history of the world. This disrespect has bred more evil and chaos in our government and society, entertainment world, sports of every kind, and it is now negatively influencing our churches and homes. Because of such disrespect many people are running amok in defiance of God, His laws, and the laws of society, and we are beginning to pay for it “big time.”

It does not take a wise person to realize that everything in America that is dear to us, all our freedoms, all of the real democracy that is ours to enjoy, the marvelous opportunities this great and wonderful nation affords, the manifold blessings that have come from God, all our religious freedoms, are the result of people acknowledging the Lord God Almighty.

We all enjoy these blessings today because our forefathers settled this country looking for a place to worship God as Christians. They wrote it on the currency of our nation. They wrote it in the constitution. It is written in letters large and clear on the pages of our history, “IN GOD WE TRUST.” The God they were trusting in was the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. It was God manifested in human flesh in the form of our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. This country was not founded on the doctrine of Mohammad or Buda or any other religion. This country was founded on the doctrine of the Lord Jesus Christ and we owe no one any apology. Yes! We are all imperfect and flawed in one way or another. That’s why we need to love one another even when we disagree. If you want to know what love is, all you have to do is read 1 Corinthians 13. If you want to know how Jesus showed it to us, just look at His suffering and death on the cross.
